Import ban slashes China’s metal scrap imports by 33%

China’s imports of metal scrap in January slid by 32.7% year on year to just 330,000 tonnes, according to a monthly import report from China’s General Administration of Customs released on Saturday, and the January result was also down 35% on month.
Within the January total were 180,000 tonnes of copper scrap – lower by 11.5% on year – and 120,000 tonnes aluminium scrap, also down by 34.4% on year, according to the Customs.
