China’s Kungang mulls 4 million t/y steelworks in Myanmar

Kunming Iron & Steel Group Co (Kungang), a state-owned steel company in Southwest China’s Yunnan province, is mulling on the possibility of investing in a 4 million tonnes/year greenfield integrated steelworks in Myanmar, Kungang officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The few Kungang officials contacted by Mysteel Global on June 26, however, declined to provide any more details or updates other than the company’s disclosure, as “the feasibility study of the new steelworks is still ongoing”.
The Myanmar steel project is planned with two stages, each with 2 million t/y steel
