Ningbo Iron & Steel Co (NISC), the only steel subsidiary of Hangzhou Iron & Steel Group (Hanggang) in East China’s Zhejiang province, ignited its new No.1 2,500 cu m blast furnace on July 25 after over 19 months of construction, a company official confirmed on July 26.
The new furnace, at 2.1 million tonnes/year, to replace the old same-sized blast furnace at NISC’s works, will need “some time” to achieve normal molten iron production, but the steel mill has honoured Beijing’s requirements by dismantling the old blast furnace around late June and early July, the official disclosed.
