Shanxi to cap coal washing capacity at 1.8 billion t/y

North China’s Shanxi will control the province’s total coal washing capacity at 1.8 billion tonnes/year at a maximum of 1,200 washing plants by the end of 2020, according to an August 12 guidance from the Shanxi government’s General Office. By 2020 as part of efforts to upgrade the province’s coal washing industry, over 80% of raw coal produced in Shanxi will be washed, it said.
Shanxi’s coal washing industry has been struggling with many problems including low efficiency, massive over-capacity and low utilization of the washing capacity in place, according to the Office’s release.
