China launching checks to verify steel capacity cuts

Three top Chinese administrative organizations – the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), National Development and Reform Commission, and National Energy Administration – will next month launch a campaign of nationwide checks to determine the status of capacity reduction efforts in the country’s steel, coal and power industries, Mysteel Global has learned.
Officials from the central government bodies and experts from related industrial institutions will be divided into ten inspection teams that will be dispatched to 30 provinces or to large provincial-level cities in early September, with the checks lasting until the end of September, an MIIT official confirmed on August 22.
