Qingxu county in Taiyuan city, a top coking-coal production hub in North China’s Shanxi province, is moving forward its ‘green’ development target of eliminating all independent coal wash plants from the county by July next year, according to local sources. The county government made its intentions crystal clear last month when it arranged for all electricity and water supplies to some 21 wash plants to be shut off and for equipment, raw materials and washed products to be removed from their sites.
The 21 coal wash
plants, each representing 600,000 tonnes/year of processing capacity and
boasting 12.6 million t/y in total, had all ceased operating by the end of July,
the deadline earlier set by the Qingxu county government.
With the 21
plants closed, Qingxu had removed 45.1 million t/y of independent coal washing
capacity by October,
