A 4.5 magnitude earthquake shook Tangshan, China’s top steel producing city in North China’s Hebei province, at 0802 (Beijing time) on the morning of December 5, but operations at local steel mills, including production and transportation have not been affected so far, Tangshan market sources confirmed shortly after the earthquake.
The depth of the earthquake was 10km with the epicenter in Fengnan district, southwest of Tangshan, according to a post by the China Earthquake Networks Center.
“ I feel that it (the earthquake) just lasted a few seconds. Nothing serious,” an official from a mill based in the Fengnan district said.
