WEEKLY: Aust., Brazil iron ore shipments total 20.5 mln t
Among all the grades and forms of Australian iron ore bound for China, that of higher-grade fines with the ferrous content at 62% and above grew by 472,000 tonnes on week, the tonnage of medium- to low-grade fines with 61% Fe content and below grew 1.03 million tonnes, and the Australian mainstream lump shipments to China rose by 25,000 tonnes on week.
As for Brazil, the total iron ore shipped over the survey period fell 40,000 tonnes to 4.67 million tonnes, among which, Vale shipped 3.87 million tonnes of iron ore, down 295,000 tonnes, and the shipment from CSN grew 148,000 tonnes to 517,000 tonnes.
China’s various ports have faced issues of discharging iron ore because of the whole country’s battling against the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCov), and higher arrival tonnages may see the pile-up of cargoes at the ports in the near term, a Shanghai-based iron ore market source predicted.
China’s steel market has been largely quiet, waiting to see whether or how many construction sites inside the country will be able to resume operations on February 9-10, as indicated by various provincial government notices.
