WSA: Global Jan crude steel output up 2.1% on year

Crude steel production among the 64 countries surveyed monthly by World Steel Association (WSA) totalled 154.4 million tonnes in January, up 2.1% on year, according to the latest statistics of WSA published on February 25. China, the world’s top steelmaking country, posted 7.2% year-on-year growth, the association calculated, though steel output from some other major steel producing countries declined.
In January, China produced 84.3 million tonnes of crude steel, accounting for 54.6% of the total, the WSA data show.
