CCMA: China’s Feb excavator sales halve on year
Among the total, domestic sales suffered more from the virus outbreak since late January, with the volume reached 6,909 units or about 74.5% of the total, down 60% on year, while exports surged 62.5% on year to 2,371 units, according to CCMA’s statistics.
“In early February when China’s demand was widely affected by battle against the virus, some major domestic excavator producers such as Sany Heavy Industry Co had endeavoured to export more, and the company had managed to secure some orders from India, Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa the after Chinese New Year holiday,” a Shanghai-based market insider said.
Despite the slow sales in the first two months, the Shanghai source remained optimistic for the whole 2020, expecting demand not to largely decline but to be delayed, as China will probably enhance investments in infrastructures construction, and the quiet market may also enable leading producers to further increase their market shares.
“The sales in March are expected may recover moderately and stay on an uptrend for April when demand improves significantly,” she projected, emphasizing, though, that it was based on the virus to be under the control.
For the first two months of 2020, excavator sales declined 37% on year to 19,222 units, among which 14,667 units or about 76.3% were for domestic sales, down 46.5% on year, while the balance of 4,555 units were for exports, up 48.2% on year, according to the data.
