Anglo American’s Q1 met coal output falls 8% on year

Metallurgical coal production of the London-headquartered Anglo American plunged 39% on quarter or 8% lower on year to 3.8 million tonnes from its coal assets in Australia over January-March, primarily due to the longwall moves at the mines, according to the company’s quarterly report released on April 23.
Among the total met coal output, hard coking coal production fell 41% on quarter or 8% lower on year to 3 million tonnes, or 79% of total met coal output, and the balance were either PCI or semi-soft coking coal, according to the report.
