CISA: China mid-May steel output grows to 8-m high

Daily crude steel output among the 97 steelworks members of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) made steady gains over May 11-20 to hit an eight-month high of 2.08 million tonnes/day, according to CISA’s latest release on May 22, as domestic steelmakers ramped up production in response to firm demand from end users and improved steel prices.
Average production during the middle ten days of this month recorded another rise of 28,700 t/d or 1.4% from the average over May 1-10, or up 1.9% on year. CISA indicated that the steady consumption of end-users and the significant growth in domestic steel prices had given Chinese steel producers more confidence to keep
