CEC: April sees first rise in manufacturers’ power use

Chinese manufacturers consumed 301.4 billion kw of power in April, up 0.1% on year and making for the first increase in electricity use for manufacturing seen so far this year, according to the latest China Electricity Council (CEC) data. The tiny increase nonetheless shows that manufacturers’ operations have been steadily recovering from the coronavirus onslaught, market watchers say.
“Since April, production among domestic manufacturers such as auto and white goods makers has generally returned to normal, with enterprises emerging from the negative impact of COVID-19,” a Shanghai-based steel market analyst observed. “Only the remaining slack demand of end users is restraining the pace of operations,” she said.
