China’s H1 coal imports rise 13% to 174 million tonnes

China imported 174 million tonnes of coal and lignite over January-June, up by 12.7% on year, according to data from the country’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) released on Tuesday. Given Beijing’s tough controls on coal imports in place these past few months, the on-year growth rate declined from the 33.1% recorded for January-February, Mysteel Global noted.
In June alone, China imported 25.3 million tonnes of coal and lignite, higher by 14.6% from May and by6.7% on year, GACC data showed.
