China’s NPI prices recover on better demand, high costs

The price of the 8-12% grade nickel pig iron (NPI) in East China’s Jiangsu province recovered from consecutive declines since late May, though up merely Yuan 5/tonne ($0.7/t) on week to Yuan 970/t including delivery and the VAT, according to Mysteel’s assessment, due to better demand from the Chinese stainless mills and high concentrates costs, market source said on Wednesday.
As per normal practice, some of the Chinese stainless steelmakers are looking for NPI supplies for their August consumption, and China’s NPI smelters have made the best of the opportunity to raise their offering prices after a few rounds of cuts in the slack consumption, as imported nickel concentrates prices
