Japanese automakers’ Jan-Jun global output down 32%

Vehicle production among Japan’s eight major automakers during this year’s first half plunged 32.3% year on year to 9.51 million units from all their assembly plants in Japan and abroad, making for the second consecutive on-year decline, Mysteel Global calculated based on each maker’s production data released on July 30.
The tumble mainly reflected the impact of the COVID-19 spread on their operations though market sources note that vehicle demand was weakening even before the virus hit from the acceleration of China-US trade tension. Though all eight manufacturers’ production was down on year, Nissan Motor recorded the largest decline of 40.8% on year at 1.46 million
