China’s Jan-Sept new ship orders fall further and faster

The orders for new vessels which China’s shipbuilders received over January-September totalled about 16.8 million dead weight tons (dwt), lower by 14% on year, as against the 4.5% on-year decline over January-August, according to the latest data from the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) published on October 16.
For this year’s first three quarters, China maintained its global lead in receiving new orders, helped by the fact that business resumed from the pandemic more quickly than in other shipbuilding countries. However, South Korea had been catching up in Q3, Mysteel Global noted.
Over January-September, China’s new vessel orders accounted
