Tokyo Steel’s Apr-Sept carbon steel sales down 15%

Tokyo Steel Manufacturing, Japan’s top electric-arc-furnace steel producer, posted a 15% on-year decline in its carbon finished steel sales over April-September to 1.05 million tonnes, which fulfilled the company’s sales target after taking into consideration of the adverse impact of the COVID-19, according to its latest financial report released on October 23.
Among the total, exports volume accounted for 247,000 tonnes, up 24.7%, while the price averaged Yen 49,500/tonne ($472/t) in the first half of the FY20, down Yen 10,400/t on year, matching the downtrend in the overall steel sales prices, which averaged Yen 63,400/t, or down Yen 12,500/t on year. “Our export rose substantially during the period
