Japan’s crude steel output including both carbon and special steel is estimated to rise by 7.8% on quarter to about 23.7 million tonnes over January-March, according to a survey released by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on February 3, indicating the further improvement in steel demand.
continuing recovery in demand from the auto and machinery sectors is
encouraging steel producers to lift their output this quarter, but uncertainties
in the COVID-19 spread persist and steel mills will need to monitor the
situation closely and adjust their production plan whenever necessary to match
the actual demand,” a METI official commented.
