BHP signs MoU with HBIS on emission reduction in steel

The world’s third largest iron ore miner BHP, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s HBIS Group Co (HBIS), a top-tier steel mill with all the core steelmaking facilities in North China’s Hebei province, agreeing to invest $15 million in total in the next three years to research and explore technologies and pathways that will mitigate greenhouse gas reduction in the steelmaking.
Under the MoU, BHP and HBIS will collaborate in three key areas including “hydrogen-based direct reduction technology, the recycling and reuse of steelmaking slag, and the role of iron ore lump utilisation to help reduce emissions from ironmaking and steelmaking”, BHP stated in the press release dated March 8, and
