China’s Q1 coal imports plunge 29% to 69 million tonnes


Over this year’s January-March period, China’s coal and lignite imports slumped 28.5% on year to 68.5 million tonnes, according to data from the General Administration of Customs (GACC) published on Tuesday. The sharp decline was chiefly due to lower volumes over January-February, while imports in March were generally stable from the same period last year, according to sources.
The value for Q1 coal imports declined too by 36.6% on year to Yuan 31.2 billion, or down 31.7% on year to $4.8 billion, GACC data showed. For March alone, China imported 27.3 million tonnes of coal and lignite in total, up 31.6% on month but dipping 1.8% on year, Mysteel
