MYMETAL: China’s May zinc output slip on power rationing


Zinc output from 48 smelters across China totaled 412,800 tonnes in May, down 18,090 tonnes or 4.2% on month, mainly due to the power supply rationing to the industrial enterprises especially smelters in North and Southwest China, according to the latest monthly survey by Mymetal, Mysteel’s nonferrous market intelligence arm.
The 48 smelters host about 5.9 million tonnes/year of zinc smelting capacity or over 85% of the country’s total, and their May output was also 1% below their target, though it was still up 3.4% on year mainly to the low base a year ago, according to the survey. In
