JFE signs LNG-fueled vessels to reduce CO2 emissions

ABSTRACT

As part of its efforts to help reduce CO2 emissions, JFE Steel, Japan’s second largest integrated mill, has signed long-term contracts to charter three new Capesize bulk carriers fuelled by liquified natural gas (LNG) to transport its iron ore and coal from overseas suppliers. JFE will be the first Japanese steel producer to deploy large-sized LNG-fuelled vessels, the company announced on July 20.
Tokyo-based JFE signed the deals with vessel owners NYK Line, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) and Mitsui O.S.K Lines for three 210,000 deadweight ton vessels, each being about 300 meters in length, breadth of 50 meters and draft of 18.4 meters.
