China’s new ship orders surge over Jan-Aug


Chinese shipbuilders received new vessel orders totalling 49.1 million deadweight tons (dwt) over January-August, higher by a massive 227.2% on year, according to the latest release from China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) on September 15. The growth was even more remarkable than the 223.2% on-year leap for the first seven months, Mysteel Global noted from the data.
Among the new ship orders for January-August, approximately 44.1 million dwt were for export, up by a huge 223.4% on year or accounting for 89.8% of the total, according to CANSI. In tandem with the surge in new vessel orders, China’s shipyards saw their order backlog increase by 26% on year
