METI: Japan’s Oct-Dec crude steel output to rise 0.8%


Japanese demand for carbon and special steel in ‘crude’ steel equivalent for both domestic sales and export will rise 0.8% on quarter during the present October-December period to 24.11 million tonnes, according to the latest forecast released by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on October 8.
If the ministry’s forecast is realised, the October-December result would give Japan a total crude steel output for calendar 2021 of 96.1 million tonnes. This would be higher by a strong 16.1% on year but would still put calendar year output short of the psychological benchmark of 100 million tonnes for a third successive
