WEEKLY: Chinese independent coke-plant coke output dips

Total coke produced by the 230 Chinese independent coking plants in Mysteel's weekly survey slid for the second week by 2,300 tonnes/day on week to 544,900 t/d on average over October 14-20, a five-week low. The lower output was mainly due to slower coking operations in North China's Shanxi, though the decline was partly offset by resumptions in East China's Jiangsu last week, according to the survey.
Tougher output restrictions for air-pollution curtailment in Shanxi, the largest coking base in China, saw the coking capacity utilisation rate among plants in most cities in the province slide last week, the data showed.
