GACC: China's 2021 coal imports up 7% to 323 million t


During 2021, China's coal and lignite imports increased 6.6% on year to 323.22 million tonnes in total, according to data released by the country's General Administration of Customs (GACC) on January 14, a record high since the data became available on the GACC website in 2014. The on-year growth was the fastest mainly during June-December due to domestic supply tightness, Mysteel Global noted.
Last year, China's total coal and lignite import value surged 64.1% on year to reach Yuan 231.9 billion ($35.9 billion), or much faster than the growth in tonnage, reflecting the skyrocketing prices of global coal to China over the same period, the GACC data suggests.   For its consumption of coal -
