CANSI: China still top in global new ship orders in '21


During 2021, Chinese shipbuilders received new vessel orders totaling 67.1 million deadweight tons (DWT), higher by a remarkable 131.8% on year, according to the latest data from the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) on January 17. Consequently, China maintained its top position in total new orders secured worldwide last year, followed by South Korea and Japan, CANSI noted, quoting data from Clarkson Research Service, a global shipping market researcher.
Last year, China's shipyards delivered new vessels equivalent to 39.7 million DWT, or up 3% on year, the data showed. By the end of December, the order backlog held by the domestic shipbuilders had grown by 34.8% on year to 95.8 million DWT, well above the threshold of 80 million
