China's coking coal imports fall 25% on year in 2021

China's imports of coking coal totalled 54.7 million tonnes in 2021, declining by 24.6% on year, which contrasted with the 6.6% on-year growth of the country's total coal and lignite imports in 2021 at 323.2 million tonnes, according to the latest data released by General Administration of Customs (GACC). The notable decline was mainly a consequence of China's restrictions on Australian coal imports from late 2020 and the transportation disruptions affecting Mongolian coal imports, Mysteel Global noted.
