China Jan-May coking coal imports up 16% to 21 mln t


Over January-May, China's imports of coking coal from all origins jumped by 16.2% on year to reach around 21.1 million tonnes, with the increase being higher than the 12% on-year growth seen during the first four months, according to recent data from China's General Administration of Customs (GACC).
The growth was stronger because in May alone, met coal arrivals at Chinese ports surged by 35.7% on year and by 7.3% on month to reach 4.6 million tonnes, the GACC data indicate.   The data also showed that last month, again no coking coal came from Australia, as China's restrictions on
