Japan's H-beam prices set to rise as mills defend prices

ABSTRACT

By June 24, Japanese H-beam prices in the spot market had increased by another Yen 2,000/tonne ($15/t) on month as dealers lifted their prices a little, attempting to pass along earlier hikes announced by producers by arguing that beam supplies are tight, market sources said.
As of Friday, deals for SS400 grade 200x100mm H-beams in Tokyo were being transacted at Yen 120,000-121,000/t, up Yen 2,000/t on month but unchanged for the recent two weeks.   A Tokyo-based distributor explained that weakened scrap prices from the beginning of May had led most steel buyers to step back from
