WEEKLY: Tangshan billet price still lacks upward impetus


Though the price of Q235 square billet in Tangshan in North China's Hebei province, the country's largest steel production hub, had slumped to a 17-month low of Yuan 3,830/tonne ($572.5/t) EXW and including the 13% VAT at the start of last week, by last Friday it had rebounded slightly to reach Yuan 3,900/t, according to Mysteel's assessment. The price was still Yuan 280/t lower on week, however.
The continuing downward slide in billet prices last week meant that the average loss on billet sales suffered by the ten integrated steel mills surveyed regularly by Mysteel expanded for the second week to a serious Yuan 434/t as of June 24. As minor compensation, the average costs the mills
