China's manganese ore prices weaken further


Chinese manganese ore prices weakened further this week as demand from silicomanganese smelters decreased with their lower output. As of June 28, the price of South Africa-origin 36.5% grade Mn ore at North China's Tianjin port, for example, was assessed by Mysteel at Yuan 44.2/dmtu ($6.6/dmtu) including the 13% VAT, lower by another Yuan 2/dmtu from one week earlier.
More domestic SiMn smelters in major production bases such as North China's Inner Mongolia and Northwest China's Ningxia and Guizhou have slowed their pace of smelting or have halted production given their deepening losses on sales of the ferroalloy. SiMn prices continue to languish as more steelmakers are undertaking maintenance
