East China’s Jiangxi eyes lower coal capacity in 2019

East China’s Jiangxi province plans to remove another 1.3 million tonnes/year of surplus coal capacity by closing 27 small-sized coal mines within this year, according to a provincial government release on August 2. With the planned capacity removed, Jiangxi’s total coal capacity including mines in operation and under construction is expected to fall below 9 million t/y, Mysteel Global understands.
According to the plan, the 27 mines – all located in six cities across the province – have capacities of under 90,000 t/y, and their closure is in accordance with the central government’s guidance to accelerate the elimination of small-sized mines.
