CONF: Japan’s steel scrap exports to grow 30% in 2020

Japan’s steel scrap exports are expected to grow 25-30% on year in 2020 as the country’s domestic demand is likely to decline while its obsolete scrap production remains at a steady pace, said Arshdeep Singh, director of Singapore-based trading firm Vital Solutions, at SteelMint’s 4th Steel Scrap, Billet, and DRI Trade Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday.
“Japan’s domestic demand for steel scrap will come down next year because the country’s steel demand will decline as building on all the sports facilities for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games will be finished by then,” he told attendees at the event, adding that Japan’s demand for steel products used in construction and civil engineering
