Hedland’s ore shipments to China in July fall 17% month

Port Hedland, the top iron ore terminal in Western Australia, delivered 38.1 million tonnes of iron ore to China in July, lower by a large 17.4% on month, according to the statistics released by the Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) on August 13. Nonetheless, the shipments were 10.5% higher than those in July last year, with the China-bound ores accounting for 87.4% of the iron ore dispatched from the port worldwide last month.
The total volume sailing from Hedland globally last month showed a similar trend, with the volume lower by 15.7% on month but up by 6% on year to 43.6 million tonnes, Mysteel Global calculates based on the PPA data.
