Outlook:
The prices of electrolytic cobalt remained stable amid sufficient spot supply. Moreover, downstream users mostly purchased on rigid demand. In addition, some electrolytic cobalt brands were in shortage and they were firm to prices, leading to sluggish transactions. As the end of the year approaches, transactions remained relatively stable and real transaction prices were depressed. Market player mostly held a wait-and-see attitude and were waiting for further market signals.
Faced with the dual pressure of rising costs and profit suffering, cobalt salt smelters had to reduce production. However, given the steady increase in electrolytic cobalt production and the relatively abundant supply of cobalt raw materials, it is expected that the overall supply of cobalt sulfate may not significantly decrease. In addition, downstream demand is unlikely to have a significant recovery in the short term. In summary, the cobalt salt market prices are expected to fluctuate in a small range. It is expected that the market prices of cobalt sulfate will reach around Yuan 26,000/tonne and that of cobalt chloride will reach around Yuan 32,500/t in the future.
