Outlook:
The prices of electrolytic cobalt remained stable with sufficient supply and flat demand as the downstream users mostly purchased on rigid demand. On the spot market, the transactions were sluggish as the traders held the prices firm in the face of short supply of certain electrolytic cobalt brands. At the same time, the market players were silent approaching the year-end, resulting in only a few transactions. Moreover, some traders released more goods at the end of the year and offered at low prices in order to recoup their funds. It is expected that the prices of electrolytic cobalt will remain weak in the short term.
Faced with the dual pressure of rising costs and profit suffering, cobalt salt smelters had to reduce production accordingly. However, considering the steady increase in electrolytic cobalt production and the relatively abundant supply of cobalt raw materials, it is expected that the overall supply of cobalt sulfate may not significantly decrease. In addition, downstream demand is unlikely to have a significant recovery in the short term. It is expected that the market prices of cobalt sulfate will reach around Yuan 26,000/tonne and that of cobalt chloride will reach around Yuan 32,500/t in the future.
