According to the news from the People's Government of Xinyu City, Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium Group has successfully achieved large-scale production of lithium sulfide, a critical raw material for solid-state batteries. This milestone establishes Ganfeng as the only company globally to vertically integrate the entire solid-state battery value chain, including materials, electrolyte raw materials, electrolytes, anodes, battery cells, and systems. This breakthrough marks a crucial step for China in the next generation of high-energy density and high safety battery technology.
Solid-state-batteries are considered an important development direction for future battery technology, and the mass production technology of lithium sulfide has long been limited by complex processes and high costs. Ye Ming, the head of the R&D department of Ganfeng Lithium, revealed that the company has overcome technical difficulties such as high temperature and inert gas protection through innovative synthesis processes. The first production line was built in 2022, and the production capacity was expanded again in 2024. At present, the product has a purity of 99.9% and a particle size D50 ≤ 5 μm. It has been supplied to more than 20 customers and has taken the lead in formulating national industry standards for battery-grade lithium sulfide, promoting the standardized development of the industry.
