CISA: Members' mid-May daily steel output dips

Daily crude steel output among the member mills of the China Iron & Steel Association (CISA) reversed down during May 11-20, declining by a tiny 0.2% over the course of the ten days, as against the 2% gain for the first ten days of this month, according to the association's latest release on May 23.

The new data shows that during mid-May, the member mills' crude steel production fell by 5,300 tonnes/day from early May to 2.25 million t/d on average, which was also down 2.3% on year. Behind the decline in output was the fact that some steelmakers had opted to scale back production,
