According to public information, the Dongying Port Economic Development Zone in Dongying City, Shandong Province held an opening ceremony for its 100,000 DWT crude oil berth on the morning of November 15, highlighted by the successful berthing of VESNA tanker (Aframax) from Singapore. This is also the first time that the Dongying Port area accommodates a 100,000 DWT crude oil tanker.
Just a day earlier, Daqing 451 oil tanker, carrying 50,000 tonnes crude oil, docked at one of Bocon International's two 100,000 DWT crude oil berths.
It is reported that there are several 100,000 DWT Aframax tankers en route to the Dongying Port, including AMBER 6 carrying 100,000 tonnes ESPO expected to arrive on November 19, and SURREY QUAYS on November 20.
These two events marked the upgrading of Dongying Port as a deepwater harbor. In other words, tankers carrying imported crude oil are able to dock at Dongying Port directly, rather than making a detour through waterways in the form of domestic trade, which is expected to have far-reaching influence on the region's refining industry by better fulfilling local and adjacent refineries' feedstock demand, to ultimately facilitate the regional economic development.
Dongying Port now accommodates four 100,000 DWT berths, two of which were constructed by Shandong Bohai Bay Haixin Port Co., Ltd., a joint venture of Shandong Bohai Bay Port Group and Wantong Haixin Holding Group Co., Ltd. The remaining two were jointly constructed by Shangdong Bocon International Port Co., Ltd. and Shandong Bohai Bay Port Group Co., Ltd.
