From April 5th to 8th, during the visit of the Guangxi economic and trade delegation to Malaysia, both sides deepened friendly communication and practical cooperation in various fields and signed a series of cooperation agreements. On April 7, Zhou Lian, the Chairman of Guangxi Investment Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Secretariat of Pahang State Government to cooperate in the exploration and development of bauxite resources in that region.
From April 2nd to 5th, Guangxi Investment Group dispatched a team to Indonesia and visited Investment Minister Bahil Lahadalia and Darmawan Prasodjo, the president director of the state-owned electricity company PLN. The research team also communicated with the Indonesian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the Indonesian branches of Chinese enterprises such as China Aluminum International Trading Group, CHN Energy, State Power Investment Corporation, and Nanshan Group, in a bid to know Indonesia's investment policies, local energy market and bauxite resources.
According to Mysteel, Guangxi Investment Group has a production capacity of 2.2 million tons of alumina, 700,000 tons of aluminum, and 920,000 tons of anode. At present, Guangxi Investment Group and State Power Investment Corporation are planning to build an industrial park in Beihai, Guangxi, which will use overseas bauxite resources. This industrial park will cover the whole aluminum value chain, including port logistics, overseas bauxite, port coal electricity, power generation, alumina, primary aluminum and aluminum processing, as well as supporting sectors including anodes and caustic soda.
On February 10, 2023, the Guangxi Investment Group's Beihai Green Aluminum Project officially started construction in the Guangxi Investment Group's Port-Vicinity Circular Economy in Tieshangang District, Beihai City. The first phase of the project with an annual capacityt of 2 million tons of alumina is expected to be put into operation in 2024. The proposed alumina project has a total annual capacity of 4 million tonnes.
