Mongolian metallurgical coal prices have declined for three months since early March this year, in parallel with the softening trend of coking coal prices in China - the largest buyer of Mongolian coal, weighed down by China's sluggish steel market.
This had led to long-standing losses for Chinese trading houses engaged in coal imports from the neighboring country, and greatly dampened their appetite for the fuel. As a result, Mongolian coal shipments to three major border crossings in China have decreased significantly in May.
