China Cu scrap supply tight, new import system delayed

The availability of copper scrap in China’s physical market remains tight, even though the country issued fresh import quotas on August 18, market sources observed on Wednesday. New regulations governing the import of copper scrap should have been in place since July but are delayed, they noted.

In the latest bulletin issued last week by China Solid Waste and Chemicals Management, the state conduit regulating the import of waste materials, 13 domestic enterprises were approved to import a total of 14,530 tonnes of copper scrap. Three companies were permitted to import 2,610 tonnes of aluminum scrap
