MYSTEEL: China's Aug thermal coal imports hit 32-mth high

China's increased appetite for overseas thermal coal cargoes has pushed the country's imports of the fossil fuel to rise by 7.8% on month to 33.34 million tonnes in August, being 4.9 percentage points higher than July and hitting a new high since January 2021, Mysteel Global learned from the new data by the General Administration of Customs (GACC).

The August rise was the most substantial one since a significant 44% on-month jump was recorded in March this year when China's industrial activities began to quickly recover following the traditional Chinese New Year holidays and with the country's lifting of COVID-related restrictions and the resumption of coal imports
