Will China’s Lithium Price Bottom Out in 2025?

Lithium

While the demand seemed to be ever growing, China’s lithium carbonate prices failed to re-stage its wonder back in 2022 that pushed the industry to develop by leaps and bounds. Instead, the lithium carbonate prices hovered low through 2024 as the supply growth far outpaced the demand, except for a short rebound in the first half.

The year 2025 kicks off with concerns over the lithium price still looming ahead. Though the energy storage sector is likely to spur the demand growth, the lithium carbonate capacity has been expanding as well, along with new projects on the mining end. Could lithium price bottom out in 2025 with the supply and demand expected to rise at the same time? Mysteel invites you to join our webinar for more clues from our senior editor, Aggie Hu.

The session will conclude with a Q&A supported by Mysteel researcher, Jenny Li, and we invite you to share your questions on the registration page to help us tailor the webinar to your interests. Your question could be selected and answered live during the webinar!

-- Review of China’s lithium carbonate supply and demand in 2024 as well as the price trends: China’s lithium carbonate production presents impressive growth through 2024, when several milestones are set on the demand side including China’s monthly EV penetration rate surpassing 50%. But the lithium prices suggest weakness on the fundamentals.

-- Forecast of the demand growth in 2025 and onwards: The demand for lithium carbonate is projected to keep growing in 2025, with energy storage sector estimated to be a leading driver.

-- Analysis of the changes on the supply side in 2025: While low lithium prices have forced some high-cost capacity to withdraw from the market, new projects are scheduled to come on stream constantly in 2025, putting pressure on lithium prices.
