GACC: China's coking coal imports fall 23% YoY in May

China’s coking coal imports in May registered a sharp decline of 23% from the same month last year to reach 7.39 million tonnes, extending the on-year downtrend for the third consecutive month, the latest data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) show. The May result was also 17% lower than April.

The continued fall in coking coal imports reflected China's extended policy of restricting imports of the raw material since early this year as part of its efforts to revive the oversupplied domestic coal market, Mysteel Global notes.
