DAILY: China's thermal coal prices soften as supply strengthens

On March 4, China's portside thermal coal prices slipped for the first time since late January, as the recovering supply pushed the market back toward a balance, driving traders to trim offers to accelerate profit-taking.

On Wednesday, Mysteel assessed 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at Yuan 750/tonne ($108.9/t) FOB northern ports with VAT, down Yuan 1/t from a day earlier. The price for the 5,000 kcal/kg NAR grade also fell Yuan 1/t to Yuan 673/t, while the 4,500 kcal/kg NAR grade dropped Yuan 2/t
