WEEKLY: China's thermal coal market firms, but gains remain measured

China's thermal coal market moved into a steady upward trend albeit at a measured pace in the week of April 13-17, as sellers adopted a firmer pricing stance amid signals for the improving demand and accelerated drawdowns in port inventory.

Portside coal prices edged higher over the week. As of April 17, Mysteel assessed 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at Yuan 771/tonne FOB northern ports with VAT, up Yuan 5/t on week. The 5,000 kcal/kg NAR grade also rose Yuan 5/t on week to Yuan 687/t, and 4,500 kcal/kg
