India braces for surging power demand as heat waves strengthen

India is taking a series of measures to brace for rising temperatures across large parts of the country that have kept shoring up its national power load since April, with more challenges observed alongside the record-breaking electricity demand late this month.
According to data from Grid-India, the country's peak power demand had climbed to 256.1 gigawatt (GW) as of April 25, creating a new historical high after beating the previous record of 252.08 GW.   The demand surge was boosted by the strengthening of heat waves that already drove temperatures above 45°C
